Christopher Lee McClain, 73, of Dahinda Illinois, died on May 7, 2024 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. Born on January 5, 1951 to the late Harry and Mary (Sullivan) McClain, he married Marta Jolene Hixson on July 28, 1973 in Moline, IL.
Chris and the love of his life, Jo were married nearly 51 years and created a beautiful life together. He leaves behind amazing memories and stories survived by wife Jo McClain and Children Chris (Mandy) McClain, Jennifer (Mike) Gribble, Jessie (Tom) Arena, James (Tabitha) McClain, and brother Charles (Cynthia) McClain. Chris, affectionately called “Pop Pop”, has joyfully inspired his grandchildren Lizzie, John, Darcy, Roselin, Liam, Gavin, Gabe, and Aiden.
Chris provided for his family while employed at John Deere for 30 years. He proudly worked at Little John Conservation Club until his passing caring for the grounds and upkeep of the land he dearly loved.
Chris enjoyed walks in the woods at Little John, sharing a laugh with everyone he encountered, a “nice little lunch”, and holding the hand of his bride anywhere the wind took them. For over 50 years, his face would light up when “Jody” walked in the room, and they enjoyed being close, listening to the birds, and sharing their thoughts daily. Above all, he enjoyed his family and sharing his joy for life. He greeted each day exclaiming “Isnʼt it a beautiful day?” and truly lived with gratitude.
Cremation rites have been accorded. In keeping with how Chris celebrated life, his ashes will be spread in the breeze at a future date. A Celebration of Life will be held in the Main Pavilion at Little John Conservation Club, Victoria, IL on Sunday, May 12 from 1-3 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Little John Conservation Club. Cards can be sent from and condolences left at
