Don Mutch, 68, of Moline, passed away August 11th, 2023 at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria, IL after a sudden critical illness. He was loved by many and will be missed greatly.
Don was born to Robert and Lorna Mutch on July 11, 1955 in Madison, WI. He graduated from Madison East High School and went on to play basketball and golf at University of Wisconsin Platteville. He then married Joann (Younkin) in 1985. She survives.
Don worked in the safety field most of his life including the Safety Supervisor at Freeman surface coal mine in Industry, IL and safety trainer of the trade workers at Western Illinois University in Macomb, IL. He also worked at the YMCA in Canton and Macomb where he worked with youth activity programs.
Don had an exceptional love for his family. His children and grandchildren were very important to him. “Papa” lit up whenever his three grandsons were around. He especially loved giving the boys a ride on his John Deere mower.
He also had a strong love for sports both playing and watching. Growing up in Wisconsin, he was raised a Packers and Badgers fan and continued to cheer for them avidly. He also loved playing golf, especially with his son.
He was preceded in death by his father. He is survived by his wife, Joann, his children, Michelle (Philip) Moe of Geneseo and Eric (Kelly) Mutch of Elmhurst. Don has 3 grandchildren with one on the way— Callen and Beckett Moe & Jackson and Baby Girl Mutch. He is also survived by his mother, Lorna of Madison, WI and 3 siblings, Doug Mutch of Madison, WI; Jannel (Bruce) Shillinglaw of Madison, WI; Julie (Bill) Newman of DeForest, WI & 2 brother in laws Alan (Michael Schlep) Younkin of Allentown, PA& Doug (Martha) Younkin of Union, MO.
Services will be held on August 19, 2023 at St. Paul Lutheran Church at 2136 Brady Street Davenport, IA. Visitation will begin at 9:30am with the funeral service at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to GLASA (Great Lakes Adaptive Sports Association) https://glasa.org/donate/.
