Dorothy Marie Buckner

Dorothy Marie Buckner, 78, of Peoria Illinois, transitioned on October 18, 2023 at 10:20 pm OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria, IL surrounded by her family. She was born on February 20, 1945 in Denison, Texas to the late William and Berdie Mae (Powdrill) Buckner. Dorothy grew up in Denison, Texas and then relocated as a child to Peoria,Il. She received her high school diploma at Peoria High School in 1962 and received her associate degree at Midstate College. She had several jobs in her lifetime that consisted of Peoria Housing Authority, Illinois Bell, Pabst Brewing Company, Community Workshop and Training Center and retired from the Human Service Center where she worked for 35 years.  Her work family dearly loved and appreciated her. 

Dorothy loved spending time with her family and friends, she also loved reading, cooking, and playing games on her phone. Dorothy was a mentor to all that knew her and ready to share her knowledge with anyone willing to learn. She loved all sports especially tennis and football.

Dorothy is survived by her three daughters Yvonne Denise Buckner, Kristi Ann (Felton) Buckner-Bush, Mijamneu Chenelle Buckner (Steven Wilcox). Surviving siblings are Willie James (Ludena) Buckner of Maryland, William O’Neal of Virginia, Keith Buckner , Emel Buckner and Kevin Buckner of Peoria, IL and Adair Buckner of California.  Surviving grandchildren are Lakeesha and Aleesha Buckner of Peoria, IL, Dietrich Richardson, Devear Lewis (Amanda), De’Andte Lewis, LaOnna and Kiyanna Hanson of Texas, Tihja and Amihja Buckner-Gates, and Koryn Buckner. 

Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents William O’Neal and Berdie Mae Powdrill-Buckner, her stepmother Mattie Bell Buckner, her maternal and paternal grandparents, one niece Nina Buckner, two nephews Chris Buckner and Roosevelt Hunter III.

Dorothy also leaves a host of great grand and great-great grandchildren and family and friends that loved and adored her.  

Cremation rites have been accorded, and there will be no services at this time. Cards can be sent from and condolences left at  illinicremation.com.
