Jo Earline (Joey) Schrock, age 79, of Lacon, IL, passed away on Saturday, September 17, 2022, at UnityPoint Hospital - Hospice in Peoria, IL, surrounded by her family.
Joey was born on January 21, 1943, to Joseph and Jayne (Barnard) Freed in Bloomington, IL. Joey grew up in Lexington, IL and graduated from Lexington High School in 1961. She attended the University of Illinois in Champaign, IL studying Home Economics while living at the 4-H Sorority House, until her father was involved in a hunting accident and she was needed back on the farm in Towanda, IL.
She married Ronald Schrock on November 7, 1964, at the United Methodist Church in Lexington, IL. They made their home in Lacon, IL, where they have now lived for 58 years and had two daughters.
Joey is survived by her husband of 58 years, Ronald Schrock of Lacon, IL and two children: Brigette (Michael) Schroeder of Yorkville, IL and Jennifer (Christofer) McAfee of Peoria, IL. She leaves behind four grandchildren, whom she adored: Evan McAfee of Ripon, WI; Nathan McAfee of Peoria, IL; and London and Millie Schroeder of Yorkville, IL. She is also survived by her brother Charles (Cynthia) Freed of Scottsdale, AZ; her step-mother Viola Freed of Bloomington, IL, as well as three nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, and several cousins.
She is preceded in death by her father Joseph Freed, her mother Jayne Freed, her father-in-law Clifford Schrock, her mother-in-law Ella Mae Schrock, and her brother-in-law Keith Schrock.
Joey was employed by BF Goodrich in Henry IL, as a Purchasing Agent for 10 years and by the First National Bank of Lacon IL as a Bookkeeper for a couple years. She then went to Sears Credit Central of Peoria IL as a Collections Agent for 12 years. Joey then joined Ron in business at Schrock Country Woodworks and then later adding The Scented Pantry which they co- owned together. They had shops in both of Lacon and Sparland, IL for 25 years until their retirement in 2009. After retirement, they enjoyed many fishing trips to Kentucky Lake, Evergreen Lake and Lake Bloomington here in IL, and Mark Twain Lake in MO, as well as trips to see family and friends. In the later years, she enjoyed just sitting in their fishing boat or from a dock and fishing for hours.
Joey enjoyed making beaded jewelry and Christmas ornaments, sewing and quilting, making porcelain dolls, crocheting, and pretty much all crafts. She ultimately enjoyed spending time with her family, doing puzzles, and reading. She also looked forward to and enjoyed attending the bi-yearly Schrock Family Reunions for Ron’s family. In her younger years, Joey was very involved in her community by being a member of the Lacon Jr. Women’s Club for many years, bowled on leagues, participated in a bridge club, and was a 4-H leader.
Joey was a woman of faith and that was truly evident at the end of her life and how she handled her passing. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Lacon, IL, for 58 years, serving on several committees and as the financial record keeper of tithing for many years. Joey leaves a legacy of love and faith to be carried on by her family and loved ones.
Cremation rites have been accorded and a memorial service will be held at New Life Community Church of Henry, IL, on Saturday, October 1, 2022, at 11am with a visitation taking place one hour prior to the service at 10am at the church. Pastor Tom Schrock of New Life Community Church and Pastor Cathy Duffy of the United Methodist Church of Lacon IL, will officiate. Burial will occur at the Schrock Family Cemetery in Garden City, MO, at a later date.
