Lana Denise Owen, affectionately known as Denise, was born on November 22, 1952, in Peoria, Illinois. She departed from this world on October 20, 2024, at the OSF Richard Owens Hospice Center in Peoria, surrounded by the love and warmth of her family. Denise was a remarkable woman whose spirit touched the lives of all who knew her.
With a career that spanned 37 years, Denise served as a Licensed Practical Nurse at OSF Medical Center before retiring in 2014. Her dedication to her profession was only matched by her passion for caring for others, a quality that resonated deeply throughout her life. She was not just a nurse but a caregiver in every sense of the word, always extending her compassion beyond her work.
Denise cherished her family above all else. She was a devoted mother to her son, Kris Owen, and his wife, Renee. The joys of her life were her grandchildren, Lane, Ava, and Zee Owen, who brought her immense happiness and whom she cherished deeply. Her connections extended beyond her immediate family; Denise was a loving sister to Sandi Shiverdecker (Eric), Terry Owen (Rhonda), William Owen (Lucia), and Russell Owen (Brenda). Her heart was vast enough to include several cherished nieces and nephews, all of whom she adored.
Denise had a zest for life that was exemplified in her travels. She found solace and joy in trips to the beach during her vacations, and she created beautiful memories visiting California, where her son and his family reside. Celebrating Mardi Gras in New Orleans and soaking up the beauty of Hawaii with her mother and sister were just a few of the adventures that enriched her life.
Denise was also a lover of animals, finding joy and companionship in cats and dogs alike. Her home was always filled with laughter, stories, and the joy of reading books. Even in the simplest moments, such as watching her favorite shows, she radiated warmth and happiness.
She leaves behind a family heartbroken yet grateful for the time they shared. Denise was preceded in death by her parents, Doris and Lane (Corky) Owen, her nephew Joshua Owen, and her beloved dog Scully. The legacy she leaves is filled with love, laughter, and countless memories that will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
Denise will be remembered not only for her nurturing spirit and her unwavering devotion to those she loved but also for the vibrant life she lived. She was truly unforgettable, and her memory will be a blessing to all who had the privilege of knowing her.
No services will be accorded. A private memorial will be held for immediate family.
