Larry Dwayne Hayes, a beloved member of the Peoria community, passed away on September 26, 2024 at the age of 72. Born on December 5, 1951, in Peoria, Illinois, Larry dedicated his life not only to his career but also to his family and friends, who were his greatest treasures.
For over two decades, Larry served as a bus driver for Quest, District 150, and Notre Dame, forging connections with countless students and families along the way. His friendly demeanor and infectious smile made him a familiar face on the roads of Peoria. In addition to his role as a bus driver, Larry also held a managerial position at Domino's Pizza, where he exhibited the same passion and commitment to service that marked every aspect of his life.
Larry's warmth and genuine love for his family were evident to all who knew him. He is survived by his devoted wife, Lisa (Foster) Hayes, and his cherished children, William Cochran and David Hayes, along with his daughter, Becky (Jesse) Coy. The light of his life shone brightly through his four grandchildren, who brought him immeasurable joy and pride. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, each of whom carry a part of his spirit with them.
Fishing and antique collecting were two of Larry's greatest passions outside of work. He spent countless peaceful hours by the water, reveling in the tranquility and beauty of nature. His love of antiques not only reflected his appreciation for history but also sparked many treasured conversations with family and friends, often sharing stories of the past.
Larry is preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Eleanor Hayes, and his brothers, Fred, James (Jimmy) Hayes, and sister Susan Brakebill. Their memory lives on in the laughter, love, and resilience of Larry’s family, who continue to honor his legacy in their daily lives.
As we remember Larry, we celebrate his remarkable ability to make those around him smile. He touched many lives with his kindness and compassion, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew him. His absence will be profoundly felt, but his spirit will forever inspire those he loved. Larry attended the Bible Methodist Church.
May Larry Dwayne Hayes rest in peace, surrounded by the love of his family, both near and far. Celebration of life will be held at a later date.
