Washburn Illinois

Louis Steven “Steve” Moore,63, of Washburn, IL, passed away surrounded by love on June 3, 2024 at OSF Richard L Owens Hospice Home in Peoria, IL, after a very short battle with cancer. Born and raised in Reno Beach and Northwood, Ohio, along the shores of Lake Erie, his loving parents were Louis Joseph Moore and Mary Lee Schnabel Moore.  Steve worked as a school bus driver for Lowpoint Washburn School District #21 for many years. Before bus driving, Steve worked as a cook, with the Water dept for the Village of Washburn, was a computer network technician, was a woodworker and a Union carpenter.

Steve was a man of many talents and interests. From a young age, Steve was interested in astronomy, the unknown, and science fiction. He enjoyed using his telescope and reading about the newest space discoveries. He was an avid lover of all things Star Trek, played Dungeons and Dragons, and enjoyed multi-player online games.  In his younger days he was very active in the Society for Creative Anachronisms (SCA), going by his character name “Wigard,” where he shot archery, was a sword fighter, and co-led a group of members in House Circle Wolf.

Steve graduated from Northwood High School in 1979, having set multiple track records during his time there. Just before Steve turned 30, life’s path took him to central IL, then to central Indiana, and finally to Washburn, IL in 2012.

Steve is survived by his daughter Amanda (Christopher) Franklin of Peoria, IL; wife Danna GE Moore of Germantown Hills, IL;  his mother Mary Moore of Northwood, OH; sister Lorri (Duane) French of McMillan, MI; sister Charlie (Justin) Yaney-Johnston, Las Vegas; brother Joel (Bobbi) Moore of Northwood; brother Noel (Erin) Moore, of Oregon, OH; sister Dani Leasure of Las Vegas; and sister Amanda (Tim) Meadors of Galloway, OH. He is also survived by his three grandchildren, Austin, Piper, and Sadie, as well as numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.  He was preceded in death by his father Louis Joseph Moore and his son Steven B. Moore.

Cremation rights have been accorded, and a celebration of life will be held August 3rd at 11am at the Universalist Unitarian Church of Peoria. There will also be a celebration on August 24th at 11am at Pearson Park Tennis Court Shelter in Oregon, OH. At both events, guests will be invited to share memories of Steve.
