Dunlap

Sharon Whittinghill. 81, of Dunlap, Illinois, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2024, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. Illinois. She passed in the presence of her loving family after a short illness

Sharon was born on April 19,1943, in Gary, Indiana, to Robert and Edna Anderson. She graduated from Hobart High School in Hobart, Indiana. She took numerous courses at Indiana University.

Sharon married Jim Whittinghill on June 19, 1965, in Hobart, Indiana. They had two children, Mark (Linda) of St. Louis, MO, and Craig (Tina) of Columbus, OH, plus five grandchildren. All survive Sharon.

Sharon was a member of First English Lutheran Church for fifty years. She loved her church life and was quite active until age slowed her activity.

She worked for several years in the offices of Bergner's until she took a position with the law firm of Swain, Hartshorn and Scott. There she had multiple functions while working several positions. She stayed with the firm for 25 years until her retirement.

Sharon was definitely a people person. She loved visiting and talking with everyone, be they family, friends, acquaintances or strangers. Her hobbies were many including sewing, gardening and travel. She enjoyed the several vacations and cruises that she and Jim took. In later years, she gravitated to calmer activities like jigsaw puzzles and reading. Sharon was an avid reader. Little time was spent before starting a new book after finishing an old one. But, what probably what made her the happiest was to see the sons that she raised turn into good Christians, citizens, friends, husbands and father.

Cremation rites have been accorded. There will be a celebration of life at a later date.

The family requests that those wishing to donate a memorial in Sharon's name do so either to the OSF Children's Hospital of Illinois or to any Ronald McDonald's House.
