Shirley D. Secretan

Shirley Deloris Secretan, 87, of Peoria Illinois, died on September 11, 2024, at Cornerstone Rehabilitation and Health Care in Peoria, IL. She was born on January 18, 1937, to the late William and Helen (Geise) Gibson in Bloomington, IL.

Shirley was a graduate of Eureka High School and Illinois Central College where she earned her Associates Degree in Registered Nursing while working full-time as an LPN. Shirley was an RN at many area nursing homes until retiring in 1994. She loved reading, painting, and crocheting. She was a big professional bull riding fan and enjoyed watching NASCAR races. Shirley was an avid Chicago Bears fan. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and loved spending time with her family.

Shirley is survived by 5 children: John Secretan of Peoria, Carrie Sue Phipps of East Peoria, Jeff Secretan of East Peoria, Jim Secretan of Peoria, and Emily Secretan of Peoria, 6 grandchildren: Rod (Christina) Nichols, Catrina (Gloria) Cook, Joe (Sam) Phipps, Elizabeth Secretan, Cara (Nathan) Olson, Jamie Hill, 3 great-grandchildren, one brother, Gene (Peggy) Gibson of Normal, and one sister, Jane Rigsbey of Valrico. As well as many nieces and nephews

She was preceded in death by her husband John L. Secretan, Jr., and sisters: Laverne Gibson and Carole Henderson.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A graveside service will be held at 11AM on Saturday October 19th at Christ Church 1604 Christ Church Rd Hanna City, Illinois. A celebration of life will follow at the residence of Jeff Secretan.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a local animal shelter or the Alzheimer's Association.
